Our Kimball Piano
The Kimball piano is used primarily for accompanying the choir anthem and other music more appropriately adapted for the piano. It was built in Chicago and donated to Christ the King Church in the 1990's. The Kimball piano is a full length nine foot concert grand piano and is occasionally used by piano studios for recitals.
Our Pilcher Pipe Organ
We are blessed to have a beautiful Pilcher Pipe organ at Christ the King that generally leads the musical accompaniment each Sunday. It is actually a combination of primarily two different instruments, with parts of at least three more included. It was installed entirely by member volunteers. The pipe organ was given to Christ the King in 2008 in two parts. The original gift, Pilcher organ Opus number 1533, built in 1926, was donated by the Settegast-Kopf Company, Funeral Direc-tors of Houston. The second half of the organ arrived when Holy Cross Church in Houston (then referred to as Santa Cruz) closed. The Pilcher organ there, Opus 1049, built 1920, was donated to Christ the King with the help of the office of the Church Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
Worship
Music is a big part of our worship at Christ the King. We begin and end our Holy Eucharist Service with music, with song infused throughout the worship.
The hymns are generally selected based on the Lectionary readings or seasonal appeal. In times where there is not a matching or related text, or the season is Ordinary Time, there are general hymn selections based on Sun-day, time of day, particular events and general praise, to name a few.
